Workshop description
The genius of democracy in the West is that it corresponds to the way human beings are. Each individual possesses inalienable dignity and natural rights that government must secure. At the same time, each person is also flawed, subject to corruption and the tendency to abuse power. Therefore government must be limited and subject to checks and balances and separation of powers. In the West today, a poorly understood postmodernism offers a diametrically opposed understanding of human beings and human government. According to this view, all things are subject to constant change and there are no lasting truths. Thus, human beings can and should be fundamentally changed via political projects and the power of government. How can we preserve the West’s democratic achievements in the face of this challenge?
